Part 3 – Pista ng Quiapo

A Catholic annual festival of the Black Nazarene. Around 80,000 Filipinos gather at Plaza Miranda in Quiapo to watch devotees in maroon shirts rush and trample over each other to touch the original Black Nazarene statue in hopes of receiving a miracle of some sort (e.g help to cure a disease). Replicas are also paraded down the streets where towels are thrown to the bearers and returned back in hopes to carrying some of the power away with them.

  1. Yup, that was an insane day. 80,000 people can squeeze into Plaza Miranda, but I hear the attendance number for the whole day and throughout the area was 1,000,000.

I have some pics up from this event: http://www.photoholik.com/projectsListe.aspx?photographer=RandomCameraGuy
